User Security

STEP FORWARD assigns access rights to the data fields for each individual user. The Access mask is set in the Templates' Field Properties Inspector - Security view; this utility provides an alternate method.

To view/change a Field's Access mask:

Please Note:
The Field location shows the name of the Template (Source) that has been selected as well as any links to other Templates. Access rights can only be set for local fields. When a Field is selected that is not local to the selected Template, the links are shown (the last named Template is the Source in which the field is local), the Access mask is disabled but visible and shows the Access mask of the Field in its local setting:

To copy the Access rights mask of Field A to that of Field B
select field B in the Fields column, drag the "Keys" icon of field B from the Current selection box to the Holding box; then select field A and drag the icon back from the Holding box to the Current selection box.

To copy the Access masks for all Fields of a Source from one User to another
select the Source, drag the "Keys" icon from the Current selection box to the Holding box; then select a new User and drag the icon back from the Current selection box to the Holding box.

To copy the Access masks for all Fields of all Sources from one User to another
select the User, drag the "Keys" icon from the Current selection box to the Holding box; then select a new User and drag the icon back from the Current selection box to the Holding box.

The Other User
is a default Access mask for Users who were not set up when the Sources (Templates) were established. When a new User X is set up in STEPforward, User X inherits all Access rights defined for Other User. If these rights are acceptable, nothing further needs to be done, else modify the Access rights of User X to suit.
